Driver faces two speeding charges

A Wellington County driver was charged twice for speeding in northern Ontario. The second charge is a racing charge

FRENCH RIVER - On Jan. 15, 2019, at approximately 3:33 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Traffic Incident Management Efficiency (TIME) team responded to a traffic complaint of a motorist passing unsafely and travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 69 in the Municipality of French River.

Police located the vehicle travelling at more than 50 kilometers(kms) over the speed limit.

As a result of the investigation, Alexis Dunning, 18 years of age, from Wellington County, Ont. was charged with Race a Motor Vehicle - Excessive Speed contrary to section 172(1).

The driver is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury, Ont. on Feb. 25, 2019. The vehicle she was operating was impounded for seven days and her driver's licence was suspended for seven days.

Further investigation revealed that this same motorist was charged for speeding less than an hour earlier in the District of Parry Sound, albeit not for 50 or more kms over the speed limit.
