Drug and weapons charges for Guelph man

A Guelph man faces several drug and weapons charges after he was observed Wednesday attempting to hide from police.

Officers were patrolling in the area of Willow Road and Silvercreek Parkway North approximately 10:15 a.m. when they observed a man trying to hide behind a bus shelter, then dart across Willow Road barely avoiding several vehicles, police report.

The man was stopped and was found to be wanted for breaching probation orders. A search incident to arrest revealed quantities of suspected cocaine, fentanyl and Diazepam as well as five cellphones and pepper spray.

A 41-year-old man is further charged with two counts of possessing controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking, possessing a controlled substance, possessing a prohibited weapon and two counts of breaching probation.

He was held for a bail hearing Thursday.
