MINTO TOWNSHIP - An individual is facing multiple charges, and a quantity of illicit drugs and other items have been seized after an officer with the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was alerted to a possibly suspended driver by the Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system.
On Sept. 21, 2023 at approximately 11 a.m., an officer patrolling along Wellington Road 109 received an alert on the ALPR system for a suspended driver and stopped the vehicle. The driver initially attempted to falsely identify themselves to the officer.
As a result of the investigation, [a 31-year-old Guelph man] has been charged with the following offences:
• Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
• Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine
• Personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice
• Use plate not authorized for vehicle
• Operate unsafe vehicle
Approximately 58 grams of suspected methamphetamine, approximately $300 in cash, fake identification and other drug paraphernalia were located and seized, and the vehicle was impounded for 45 days. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on Nov. 17, 2023.
