Guelph police are investigating after eight catalytic converters were stolen last week from vehicles at a north end dealership.

Approximately 4:40 p.m. Friday police were called to a dealership on Woodlawn Road West. Staff noticed the exhaust components missing when they started some of the vehicles to move them. It is believed the total value of the theft will be in excess of $10,000.

Two males were captured on video. It is believed they used a torch to cut off the converters.

Police services across North America have reported a sharp increase in catalytic converter thefts during the last few months. In Guelph there have been more than 50 such thefts since Christmas.

The theft remains under investigation. Anyone with information about this incident, or catalytic converter thefts in general, is asked to call Sgt.
