Erin man charged with impaired after single-vehicle crash

Initial reports indicated that the driver had almost hit another vehicle head-on before entering the ditch

TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH/ERAMOSA - On Dec. 22, 2019, at approximately 3 a.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single-vehicle collision on Wellington Road 124 near the Hamlet of Everton south.

Initial reports indicated that a driver had nearly hit another vehicle head-on before entering the ditch. OPP responded and while speaking with the driver, formed the opinion that they were impaired by alcohol. A roadside screening test was conducted and the driver registered a 'fail.' They were arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Tyler Robert Smith, 23 years old of Erin has been charged with impaired operation - 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood).

A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (ADLS) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph on Jan. 24, 2020.
