A Guelph female faces impaired driving and drug charges after her erratic driving Tuesday morning caught the attention of other motorists, report Guelph police.

At approximately 7:50 a.m. police received a report of an erratic driver coming into Guelph, speeding and swerving out of its lane. Officers attended the registered owner’s address, where they saw a female exiting the still-running motor vehicle.

The female was showing signs of impairment by a drug and officers observed a marijuana grinder on the dashboard and could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle. A female passenger was passed out and had to be awakened by police.

During a subsequent search, officers discovered methamphetamine and fentanyl, as well as pipes and other drug paraphernalia. Investigation revealed both females were on court orders not to have contact with each other.

The driver, a 33-year-old Guelph female, is charged with impaired driving, possessing a controlled substance, breach of probation, two counts of failing to comply with release orders and driving with cannabis readily available. She was held for a bail hearing Wednesday.

The passenger, a 28-year-old Guelph female, is charged with possessing a controlled substance and failing to comply with an undertaking. She will appear in a Guelph court August 20.
