Four charged, two stolen vehicles recovered in separate incidents

A Guelph couple faces several charges after a stolen SUV and several sets of licence plates were recovered Friday in one of two cases where stolen cars were recovered by police over the weekend.

In the first incident, at approximately 2:20 p.m. Friday, members of the Guelph Police Service Break Enter Auto Theft (BEAT) Unit located a Ford SUV in a parking lot on Imperial Road North. Investigation determined the licence plates were registered to a Kia motor vehicle.

While police were watching the vehicle, a male and female returned to it. Both were arrested.

A search of the vehicle revealed four different licence plates and other property including retired US Navy memorabilia, identification and credit cards in various names.

A 36-year-old Guelph male and 32-year-old Guelph female are jointly charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000 and several counts of possessing stolen property under $5,000. The male was also found to be wanted on eight different warrants from various police services.

The female will appear in a Guelph court June 28. The male was held for a bail hearing Tuesday.

In the second incident, a Guelph couple faces several charges after police recovered a stolen SUV early Saturday morning.

Just before 2 a.m., police were notified of an SUV driving erratically in the area of Edinburgh Road South and Southcreek Trail. Police located the SUV and spoke to the occupants, including a male passenger who provided what was discovered to be a false name and date of birth.

The SUV was determined to be stolen and the pair were arrested. A search of the vehicle incident to arrest revealed quantities of suspected cocaine and fentanyl.

A 32-year-old London male and 37-year-old Guelph female are jointly charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000 and two counts of possessing controlled substances. The male is also charged with obstructing police and breach of probation. He was held for a bail hearing and will appear in a Guelph court June 3, 2022. The female is also charged with driving while suspended and breach of probation. She will appear in a Guelph bail court Tuesday.
