Four drivers charged for racing on the Hanlon Expressway

All four drivers were traveling in excess of 50 km/h or more over the speed limit

On Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018 at approximately 4 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on The Hanlon Expressway, Guelph. 

The officer observed a male driving a newer model SUV at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 130 km/h, exceeding the posted speed limit by at least 50 km/h.

Thirty-eight-year-old Lorenzo M. Gobbato of Wilmot has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on April 10, 2018. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

On Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018 at approximately 2:30 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on The Hanlon Expressway, Guelph. 

The officer observed a female driving a newer model SUV at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 140 km/h, exceeding the posted speed limit by at least 60 km/h.

Sixty-year-old Leslie Porter-Wood of Wellington North has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on April 4, 2018. Her driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

On Monday, Feb. 26, 2018 at approximately 8:30 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on The Hanlon Expressway, Guelph. 

The officer observed a female driving a newer model SUV at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 130 km/h, exceeding the posted speed limit by at least 50 km/h.

A 17-year-old female youth has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on April 4, 2018. Her driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

On Monday, Feb. 26, 2018 at approximately 11 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on The Hanlon Expressway, Guelph. 

The officer observed a male driving a newer model sedan at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 150 km/h, exceeding the posted speed limit by at least 70 km/h.

Nineteen-year-old Pieter Oscar Wyminga of Elora has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on April 4, 2018. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
