TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH - Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a female in relation to a raffle scam that took place between April 2016 and December 2016.
31-year-old Patricia Oldham of Harriston has been charged with fraud under $5,000 and Lottery Not Authorized contrary to the Criminal Code.
Between April 2016 and December 2016, Oldham was selling raffle tickets and bracelets claiming that the proceeds would be donated to the breakfast program at Victoria Cross Public School in Mount Forest.
No money was ever donated and there is no evidence that the prizes that were advertised were ever awarded. Oldham did not obtain a lottery license from the Township of Wellington North or through the AGCO. A complaint was filed with the Township office as well as with the OPP.
Investigation has revealed that Oldham sold tickets at the Mount Forest Home Show in the spring, Mount Forest Fireworks Festival in the summer, and at the Mount Forest Craft Show in the fall.
She also advertised tickets online through Facebook Buy and Sell Groups, including the "Mount Forest & Surrounding Areas Buy/Sell/Swap" page.
