Guelph Police responded to 157 calls for service

The following news releases were issued today by the Guelph Police Service:

Stolen Kia Sorento located
Some time between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Oct. 9, 2020, a black 2016 Kia Sorento was taken from the parking lot of a hotel located near the intersection of Imperial Road North and Woodlawn Road West in the City of Guelph.

On Oct. 15 at 7:36 a.m., police located the unoccupied vehicle parked near the intersection of Marilyn Drive and Woolwich Street.

Male arrested for commercial break-in
Some time overnight on Oct. 13, 2020, an adult male pried open the door of a business located near the intersection of Woolwich Street and Speedvale Avenue West in the City of Guelph. He then entered the business and stole a Samsung tablet valued at $150. The deadbolt of the door was also damaged during the break in.

On Oct. 16 at 12:19 a.m., police located the male near the intersection of Woodlawn Road West and Woolwich Street. He was subsequently arrested.

A 27-year-old Guelph male has been charged with:
    •    Break, enter and commit
    •    Breach probation x2

He will appear in court on Jan. 29, 2021.

Parking meters stolen
On Oct. 15, 2020 at 4 a.m., a garbage container and four parking meters were taken from a parking lot located in the downtown core of the City of Guelph. Each parking meter is valued at $1,000 and contained approximately $100 in coins. The garbage container was used to transport the stolen parking meters.

Male arrested for failing to appear in court
On July 22, 2019, an adult male was arrested and charged with:
    •    Theft under $5,000
    •    Resist arrest
    •    Escape lawful custody
    •    Breach of probation

He was released with a court date of Sept. 13.

On Sept. 13, he failed to appear in court.

On Oct. 15, 2020, police located the male and he was subsequently arrested.

A 38-year-old Niagara Falls male has been charged with fail to appear.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing on Oct. 16.

Multiple motor vehicle collisions and driving complaints
Over the past 24 hours the Guelph Police Service received reports of six motor vehicle collisions and five driving complaints occurring throughout the City of Guelph.

The Guelph Police Service would like to remind the public to slow down and follow the rules of the road to help ensure everyone arrives to their destination safely.
