E-bike operator faces charges

The following news releases were issued today by the Guelph Police Service:

At approximately 1:03 a.m. on Sept. 1, 2017, a male driving a Torino electric bicycle, with the pedals removed, was stopped in the area of Fair Road and Arrow Road when he failed to stopped at the posted stop sign.

The investigating officer was able to determine that the name he provide was false and further investigation revealed his true identity and the fact that he was prohibited from driving for Criminal Code convictions.

The 29-year-old Guelph man was arrested and charged with two counts of driving while disqualified and two counts of driving under suspension. He was held in custody and will appear in court today.

At approximately 9 p.m. on Aug. 31, a Stephanie Street homeowner heard the garage door open and when no family member came into the house, she went to out check. It was found that a navy blue Mazda 6 with personalized license plates had been stolen. A purse with banking cards and other personal items was also in the vehicle.

It was reported to police that unknown suspects broke into multiple storage lockers in a Delaware Avenue building. Assorted property and cash was taken and it is believed that this incident happened around 3 a.m. this morning.

On Aug. 31, it was reported to police that a Conroy Crescent building also had multiple storage lockers broken into and property taken. It is believed that the lockers were broken sometime within the last few days.
