Guelph man accused of assaulting victim with hockey stick

Police say he also brandished a knife

On Oct. 1, 2020 at 12:44 a.m., an adult male victim parked his motor vehicle in a residential parking lot located near the intersection of Alma Street North and Willow Road in the City of Guelph. He was then confronted by an adult male tenant of the residential building. [It is alleged that] the male brandished a knife, pointed it at the victim and began swearing and screaming at him. The male then ran back inside his apartment, returned outside wielding a hockey stick and used it to strike the victim several times on the right knee and left abdomen. The male then repeatedly hit the victim’s vehicle with the stick causing minor scratches. The victim fled the scene in his vehicle and the Guelph Police Service was contacted for assistance.

Please note that the victim sustained minor bleeding and bruising from the incident, but did not require medical treatment.

On Oct. 6 at 5:25 p.m., police located the male near the intersection of Dawson Road and Willow Road. He was subsequently arrested.

A 45-year-old Guelph male has been charged with:
    •    Assault with a weapon
    •    Mischief under $5,000

He will appear in court on Dec. 22.
