Guelph man faces impaired, drug possession charges after two-vehicle crash

Police have also accused the 38-year-old of failing to stop after an accident

TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH/ERAMOSA - On Aug. 4, 2021, at approximately 8:15 a.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a two vehicle collision on Wellington Rd 124, near Guelph Lake.

Initial reports indicated that a S.U.V. (Sport Utility Vehicle) was struck by pickup truck that immediately drove from the scene. There were no reports of injuries.

OPP responded and located the suspected driver of the pickup truck. While speaking with the driver, officers formed the opinion that the driver was impaired by alcohol and/or drug. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing. A search incident to arrest located a quantity of suspected narcotics.

As a result of the investigation, a 38-years-old of Guelph, has been charged with failing to stop after an accident, operation while impaired and possession of a schedule I substance - opioid (other than heroin).

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph on Sept. 7, 2021.
