A Guelph woman faces several charges after a stolen U-Haul truck struck a police cruiser early Sunday.

Approximately 2:15 a.m. the truck was being reversed in a parking lot on Macdonell Street when it struck a Guelph police cruiser. The parties in the truck were spoken to and identified, but at that time the truck had not yet been reported stolen.

Officers later learned the vehicle had been stolen by a man posing as an employee of U-Haul who took the keys from a customer returning the truck.

Sunday evening a 34-year-old Guelph woman who had been a passenger in the truck was stopped downtown and arrested. During a search officers recovered a knife and small amount of suspected crystal methamphetamine. She is charged with being an occupant in a stolen vehicle, possessing a controlled substance and two counts of disobeying a court order. She will appear in a Guelph court June 9, 2023.

The investigation is ongoing.
