A Guelph male faces several charges after one Guelph police officer was kicked and another spat on early Wednesday morning, say Guelph police.

Approximately 1:50 a.m., police were called to a disturbance at a west end residence where a female reported she had been assaulted and her cellphone broken. Police arrested a male after a brief foot chase, but while he was being placed in a cruiser he kicked one officer in the thigh.

The male was transported to Guelph General Hospital for assessment due to his level of intoxication. While at the hospital approximately 5:25 a.m. he spat in the face of another officer.

An 18-year-old Guelph male is charged with assault, mischief and two counts of assaulting police. He was held for a bail hearing Wednesday.
