Theft from cars arrest/charges also from hit and run of Merion Street home

On Oct. 18, 2016 at 6:30 a.m. a homeowner on Glenburnie Drive observed a male breaking into his vehicle. The male fled when confronted.

K9 General was deployed and tracked the suspect to Hadati Road where he was placed under arrest.

Along the track several stolen items were located. A search subsequent to his arrest discovered several items believed to be stolen from cars.

Investigation also revealed that the male entered a car port on Franchetto Boulevard and stole a pack of cigarettes.

The 27-year-old Guelph man has been charged with theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property and break and enter.

This man was also being sought by police for the hit and run that occurred on Sept. 27, 2016 when a vehicle struck a home on Merion Street and the occupants fled the scene.

He has been charged in relation to that incident with fail to remain at the scene of an accident as well as under the Highway Traffic Act with careless driving, drive – no licence, use plates unauthorized for vehicle and fail to remain.

He was also charged under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act with drive motor vehicle – no insurance. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on October 18, 2016.

Please contact the Guelph Police station to report stolen property from car entries if they occurred overnight Oct. 17 into the early morning hours of Oct. 18, 519-824-1212 ext. 7241.

A list of the stolen items will be available to assist in identifying rightful owners.
