A Guelph husband and wife each face charges after a landlord and tenant dispute turned violent on the weekend.

About 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Guelph police were contacted by a resident of College Avenue West. The caller said his landlord came to his room and asked him to move out, but when the caller asked for more notice the landlord hit him in the head with a golf club, police report. Police observed the male bleeding from a small cut on the forehead.

After police told the landlord he was under arrest, the male shoved one officer and grabbed another’s arm hard enough to leave visible marks. During the struggle the male appeared to be reaching for a nearby toolbox in which officers later found a large crowbar.

As police were trying to get the male under control, his wife jumped onto an officer’s back to disrupt the arrest.

A 60-year-old Guelph male is charged with assault with a weapon and assault with intent to resist arrest. A 66-year-old Guelph female is charged with obstructing police. Both will appear in a Guelph court August 10.
