A Guelph male was arrested for impaired driving Friday evening after he was seen hitting a parked car and then driving on a bare rim.

A witness called police about 7:45 p.m. to say he was following the motor vehicle on Victoria Road North near Eastview Road. Guelph police officers located the vehicle on Balmoral Drive and saw a male matching the driver’s description standing near it. One of the front tires was shredded off the rim.

The male approached officers, who observed three small baggies of white powder on the boulevard close to where he had been standing. The male was showing signs of impairment and was arrested. A drug recognition evaluation determined the male was impaired by a stimulant.

The baggies were seized and determined to contain 3.6 grams of suspected cocaine with an estimated value of $360.

A 44-year-old Guelph male is charged with impaired operation by a drug, possession of a controlled substance and operating an unsafe vehicle. He will appear in a Guelph court Sept. 3.
