A Guelph man is charged with impaired driving after he was found Thursday morning passed out in a running vehicle, Guelph police report.

Approximately 8:40 a.m. police were called to a plaza near Gordon Street and Wellington Street after staff of a business reported a male had been asleep in a vehicle for three hours.

Officers arrived and spoke to the male, who had poor concentration and slow movements. He was observed to be trying to hide a small baggie containing prescription tranquilizers.

The man was arrested and transported to the police station, where an officer trained in drug recognition determined the male’s ability to operate a vehicle was impaired.

A 22-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired operation. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his father’s vehicle was impounded for seven days.
