Impaired charge for man reportedly stopped at intersection passed out behind the wheel

Guelph police report a pair of impaired charges were laid on the weekend

Two Guelph males were arrested for impaired driving over the weekend.

Approximately 9:50 p.m. Saturday, the Guelph Police Service was alerted about a possible impaired driver in a parking lot on Woolwich Street near Speedvale Avenue West. A male was located sitting in a running motor vehicle and police noted an odour of an alcoholic beverage. The male failed a roadside screening demand and was taken to the police station where breath tests confirmed he had more than double the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

A 54-year-old Guelph male is charged with impaired operation and impaired operation – blood alcohol content. His driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in a Guelph court September 29, 2021.

Approximately nine hours later, just after 7 a.m. Sunday, the Guelph Police Service was called to a report of a male passed out inside a running motor vehicle near the intersection of Elmira Road South and Worton Avenue. Officers located the vehicle and after approximately one minute of banging on the window were able to wake the male in the driver’s seat.

The male was showing signs of impairment and officers located several empty alcoholic beverage containers inside the vehicle. The male was arrested and breath tests at the station confirmed he had more than double the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

A 21-year-old Guelph male is charged with impaired operation and impaired operation – blood alcohol content. His driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in a Guelph court July 13.
