Impaired charge laid after two vehicles destroyed in crash

A Guelph man faces impaired driving charges after a collision Tuesday evening which destroyed two vehicles.

Just after 8 p.m., Guelph police were called to a collision near Paisley Road and the Hanlon Expressway. Investigation revealed a vehicle was stopped in the left turn lane when it was struck from behind, causing significant damage to both vehicles. No serious injuries were reported and both drivers declined medical attention.

Officers detected an odour of alcoholic beverage on one driver’s breath. He was arrested and transported to the police station, where testing confirmed he had more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

A 32-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in a Guelph court December 30, 2022.
