A Guelph man faces an impaired driving charge after a passerby reported a man passed out at an intersection.

Just after 1 p.m. Wednesday a witness reported a driver passed out in his vehicle at Imperial Road North and Speedvale Avenue West.  The driver woke up and left before officers arrived, but one of the responding officers spotted the vehicle turning onto the Hanlon Expressway and pulled it over.

The driver had a strong odour of alcohol on his breath. After failing a roadside test he was arrested and transported to the police station, where further testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

A 45-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving.
