INNISFIL - A 55-year-old Guelph man is facing several charges after South Simcoe Police Service officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle from an Innisfil home.

On Nov. 6, 2018 around 7:30 p.m., while en route to the call in the Big Bay Point and Richview Road area, police received updated information that the vehicle had returned to the home.

When officers arrived, they found a suspect being held for police by a bystander who reported being assaulted. The victim had very minor injuries and declined EMS.

As officers interacted with the suspect, they detected an odour of alcohol and other signs of impairment. The suspect was arrested for Impaired Driving and Theft of a Motor Vehicle and transported to South Division.

Further testing resulted in readings of more than twice the legal limit. The man was charged with Impaired Driving, Over 80, Drive Disqualified and Assault. He was released with a court date later this month.
