For the third time this week, a Guelph male has been arrested after DNA linked him to a previously-unsolved crime. The three cases are not related.

Last September, a Guelph female called police to report her motor vehicle had been stolen from an address in the city’s south end. The vehicle was recovered two days later just outside the City of Guelph. While examining the vehicle, police recovered several items which were sent to the Centre of Forensic Sciences (CFS) for examination.

On May 4, the Guelph Police Service was notified by CFS officials that analysis of one of the submitted items matched someone in the National DNA Data Bank. Approximately 12:35 a.m. Thursday that male was located on Wellington Street West and arrested.

A 28-year-old Guelph male is charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000, occupying a stolen motor vehicle and breaching probation. He will appear in a Guelph court Sept. 3.

On Monday, a 21-year-old Guelph male was arrested after DNA analysis linked him to the July, 2020, theft of a different motor vehicle. On Tuesday, a 29-year-old Guelph male was arrested after DNA tied him to a 2009 residential break-in.
