A Guelph woman faces assault and weapons charges after someone pulled a knife on staff at a downtown business, say Guelph police.

Just before 11 a.m. Tuesday police were called to a business near Quebec Street and Wyndham Street North where a woman was reportedly waving a knife in the air while threatening staff.

The suspect was located a short time later and arrested after a brief struggle. A search incident to arrest revealed a knife inside the front pocket of her hoodie.

Investigation revealed the woman was banned from the business after a confrontation the previous day during which a staff member was punched in the breast.

A 36-year-old is charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, assault, assault to resist arrest and two counts of breaching a probation order. She was held for a bail hearing.
