An eighth person has been arrested in connection with the Project Hammer drug trafficking investigation after officers witnessed an alleged transaction Thursday afternoon, Guelph police report.
Approximately 2:30 p.m., police were in the area of Silvercreek Parkway North when they observed a man known to be wanted in relation to the ongoing investigation.
He was observed to meet briefly with another man in what officers believed was a drug transaction. The male was stopped and arrested. A search incident to arrest revealed $330 in cash.
The second man was also stopped and a search revealed he was holding a small amount of suspected cocaine.
A 26-year-old Guelph man is charged with trafficking a controlled substance.
A 48-year-old Guelph man is charged with possessing a controlled substance.
The 26-year-old is the eighth person arrested in connection with Project Hammer, a months-long investigation which resulted in the seizure of more than five kilograms of cocaine and significant amounts of psilocybin, MDMA and LSD as well as a loaded handgun and more than $236,000 in cash.
The investigation is ongoing.
