Guelph police are once again reminding the public to be careful about sharing intimate images after a male was extorted for $1,100.

On Tuesday a male attended the police station to make a report. He advised he was contacted approximately 1:30 a.m. Tuesday by someone he believed was a female. The conversation turned sexual and within 15 minutes the male had sent nude photos.

The other user immediately demanded payment or else the photos would be shared with everyone on his contact list. The male sent $1,000 via e-transfer and another $100 in iTunes gift cards. After telling the other user he had no more money the contact stopped and the images were not shared.

Residents are urged to be very cautious when asked to share intimate images, which are often used to extort money from victims. These crimes are almost impossible to investigate.
