************************
On April 27, 2018 at approximately 1 p.m., Guelph Police were called to Laird Road where there was a report of a single vehicle collision. It is alleged that an unlicensed driver took their employer’s vehicle without consent and drove it aggressively and dangerously throughout the City of Guelph. The driver lost control of the vehicle in an attempt to pass on a gravel shoulder and drove head on into a hydro pole at a high speed.

Upon being advised that police were attending, the driver fled on foot. As a result of a successful canine track, the driver was located an hour later approximately 1km away from the collision. The driver was sent to the hospital and sustained minor chest injuries and a broken foot.

The collision resulted in extensive damage to both the vehicle and the hydro pole. Damage to the vehicle is estimated to be in excess of $20,000. The hydro pole repair, which required the road to be closed for several hours, is estimated to be $25,000.

Graham Drennan, a 35-year-old Milton male, was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fail to stop at accident, take motor vehicle without consent and drive while under suspension under the Highway Traffic Act. He was given a June 12, 2018 court date.
