A Guelph man faces several charges after a man and woman were both hit in the head with a baseball bat early Monday.

Approximately 12:20 a.m. the Guelph police were called to a residence in the area of Dawson Road and Willow Road. Investigation revealed a man and woman were involved in a verbal dispute when a second man struck both with a wooden bat, causing a large gash on the man's head and significant swelling on the female’s head. Both were taken to hospital for treatment.

The suspect fled prior to police arrival but was located early Tuesday morning at an address on Woolwich Street and arrested. Investigation revealed the man was also wanted for failing to appear in court last September on charges including obstructing police and breaching several court orders.

A 33-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault causing bodily harm, two counts of assault with a weapon and uttering threats. He was also charged with possessing stolen identity documents and possessing a stolen credit card after they were found on his person during a search incident to arrest. He was held for a bail hearing Tuesday.
