A Guelph male faces several charges after reportedly damaging a car and pulling a fire alarm at a downtown business Wednesday.

Guelph police report that shortly after 11 a.m. they were called to the downtown library branch on Norfolk Street after witnesses saw a male pulling plants out of a garden and then throwing a chunk of asphalt at a parked car, causing approximately $500 in damage.

A 30-year-old male was located a short distance away and arrested for mischief under $5,000. He was released on an undertaking but a few hours later, about 4:20 p.m., the same male entered the Old Quebec Street Mall downtown and pulled a fire alarm. The mall was evacuated and Guelph Fire Department responded to ensure there was no fire.

The male fled before police arrived, but he was located downtown about 2 a.m. Thursday and arrested. He is further charged with making a false alarm of fire and failing to comply with an undertaking. He will appear in a Guelph court July 27.
