Man denied service swung a chain at a security guard, say police

The accused was denied service from staff and allegedly proceeded to engage in an altercation by shoving the security guard and proceeded to wield a heavy utility chain with a padlock attached to it in the direction of the security guard

On July 23, 2020, at approximately 10:44 p.m., Police responded to a reported disturbance at a local business in the city’s downtown core involving an on duty security guard and the accused, a 43-year old-Guelph male.

The accused was denied service from staff and proceeded to engage in an altercation by shoving the security guard and proceeded to wield a heavy utility chain with a padlock attached to it in the direction of the security guard. The accused eventually stopped swinging the chain at which time security was able to take control of the accused until Police arrived on scene.

The accused was subsequently arrested for cause disturbance, assault with weapon and weapons dangerous. He was transported back to the Guelph Police Service where he was processed and further released on an undertaking by the officer in charge.

The accused is expected to appear in court on Nov. 10, 2020 at 9:00 a.m..
