A Guelph male escaped injury Thursday after he was hit by his own car as a thief drove it away, police report.

Approximately 7:40 a.m. police were called to an address in the area of Edinburgh Road South and Dean Avenue. A resident reported his black Nissan Kicks motor vehicle was warming up in the driveway while he went across the street to help a neighbour shovel.

Another vehicle stopped and the passenger got into the Nissan and drove away, colliding with the owner as he did so. The suspect is described as an Asian male with a darker complexion. He was dressed all in black and wearing a blue mask with white markings on it. He arrived in a grey Kia.

The Nissan was one of three vehicles reported stolen during a one-hour period Thursday morning. In all three cases they were left unattended while warming up. It is not known if the incidents were related.

Approximately 7 a.m. police received a report of a Toyota SUV stolen from a driveway in the area of Grange Road and Kearney Street. Less than an hour later a Subaru motor vehicle was stolen from a driveway in the area of York Road and Menzie Avenue. Both of those vehicles were later recovered and the investigations are ongoing.
