Man on bike hits police cruiser, multiple charges laid

Just before 3 a.m. on June 17, police were investigating an unrelated incident on Waterloo Avenue when an intoxicated man on a bike was seen swerving back and forth as he was riding eastbound.

The man ran into an officer’s marked police cruiser that was parked on the roadway and broke its tail-light. He then fell off the bike and was not hurt.

James Bending, a 35-year-old Guelph man was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and a search found that he was in possession of a substance believed to be cocaine.

He was charged with drug possession, careless driving, riding a bike at night without a light and horn and failing to identify himself. When he was sober, he was released to appear in court on July 25, 2017.
