Man passed out behind steering wheel charged with impaired

Police say a 68-year-old man was in possession of several types of illegal drugs

A Guelph man faces impaired driving and drug charges after he was found slumped over the steering wheel of a running vehicle Sunday evening.

Just after 6 p.m. emergency personnel were called to the area of Silvercreek Parkway North and Paisley Road. The man was located passed out inside the running vehicle.

He was awakened and showed signs of being impaired by a drug. He was arrested, and a subsequent search of the man and his vehicle revealed two baggies of unknown white powder and small amounts of suspected cocaine, methamphetamine, ecstasy and Xanax as well as more than $1,100 in cash.

A 68-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired operation, possessing a controlled substance and possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. He will appear in a Guelph court July 5, 2022.
