TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON — On Monday, June 19, 2017 at approximately 5:15 p.m. Wellington County OPP, Guelph-Wellington Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Centre Wellington Fire & Rescue (CWFD) responded to the banks of the Irvine River, north of the David Street Bridge, Elora.
A male had fallen about 60 feet into the Elora Gorge and was seriously injured.
The male had fallen when he attempted to climb down the gorge wall. The male was with three friends, who were not injured.
CWFD performed a high angle rescue and extracted the critically injured male from the Gorge. He was taken by air ambulance to the Trauma Centre at St. Michaels Hospital in Toronto with life threatening injuries.
The injured is a 20-year-old male from North York. He is currently in stable condition in hospital.
The Wellington County OPP reminds hikers and campers to stay to the trails and obey signs and notices.
