A Guelph male wanted for taking off on police earlier this month was arrested early Thursday and faces several charges.

Guelph police were investigating another matter in the area of Woodlawn Road West when they came across the male at approximately 1 a.m. At the time he was in the company of a female with whom he is to have no contact.

On April 11, about 7:40 p.m., officers saw the male driving on Gordon Street near Harvard Road. Officers knew him to be a prohibited driver, but when a traffic stop was attempted the male took off, accelerating up to 100 km/h and almost hitting another vehicle.

A 34-year-old male is charged with dangerous driving, flight from police, driving while prohibited, driving while suspended and three counts of breaching probation. He was held for a bail hearing Thursday.
