Meyer Drive fire hydrant hit-and-run under investigation

Police are looking for the suspect vehicle

The Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit is seeking the public’s assistance as it continues to investigate a hit and run collision involving a fire hydrant.

About 5:45 p.m. March 11, a hydrant was struck and knocked from its base on Meyer Drive in the area of John F Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute. Police recovered a Chevrolet hubcap and headlight which had been left behind. The hydrant was repaired by city staff and there was no resulting water leak.

The involved motor vehicle was described as an older model, dark red small pickup with roll bars in the bed. The driver was a Caucasian male, mid-40s with a thin build and grey facial hair.

Police have obtained photos of the responsible vehicle taken moments before the collision. The collision would have caused significant front-end damage.
