Between 7 a.m. on Friday, April 20, 2018 and 7 a.m. on Monday, April 23, 2018, the Guelph Police Service dealt with 585 calls for service

The following news releases were issued today by the Guelph Police Service:

Disturbance - arrest
On April 22, 2018 at approximately 2:25 a.m. while on routine patrol, Guelph Police were flagged down by staff at a licensed establishment on Macdonell Street. Upon speaking with staff, police identified two males involved in a potential assault. Police investigation discovered there were no grounds for charges of assault, however one male was charged with weapon offences.

As a result of investigation, Adam Jbeirti, a 21-year-old from Kitchener, was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and carrying a concealed weapon. He was given a June 5, 2018 court date.

Break and enter
On April 22, 2018 at approximately 7:30 p.m., Guelph Police were called to a residence on Stephanie Drive, where there was a report of a break and enter. The culprit(s) broke into the residence and electronics and jewelry. Anyone who may have information about this incident is asked to contact Cst M. Lalonde at 519-824-1212 at ext. 7522. Shoplifting - arrest
On April 21, 2018 at approximately 2:20 p.m., Guelph Police were called to a department store on Stone Road where there was a report of a shoplifting incident. Jonathan Kennaway, a 37-year-old Guelph male, was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and breach of probation x2. He was held for a bail hearing that occurred on April 22, 2018.

Missing child - located safely
On April 22, 2018 at approximately 11 a.m., Guelph Police responded to a report of a missing child on the northeast end of Guelph. Upon police entering into an investigation, the missing child was located. No injuries were reported and the child was located in good health.

Between 7 a.m. on Friday, April 20, 2018 and 7 a.m. on Monday, April 23, 2018, the Guelph Police Service dealt with 585 calls for service.

Fire at 32 Independence Place
On behalf of the Guelph Fire Department, the following release is being posted:

On April 22, 2018, the Guelph Fire Department responded to a reported fire at 32 Independence Place, Linamar Gear.

Arriving at the scene, firefighters found smoke coming from roof stacks. The first in crew found the fire was contained to an oil quench press.

The fire was quickly brought under control using extinguishers and then extinguished completely with firefighting foam.

There were no injuries to firefighters or employees.

The cause of the fire and damage estimate  will be investigated by Guelph Fire investigators.
