Guelph Police Service dealt with 708 calls for service over the weekend

The following news releases were issued today by the Guelph Police Service:

Theft - arrest
On Aug. 17, 2018 at approximately 3:45 p.m., Guelph Police were called to a business on Quebec Street in regard to a theft of a laptop.  Police were able to confirm the identity of the male through video surveillance.  Police searched the downtown area and were able to locate the male.

Joey Stafford, a 36-year-old Guelph male, was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000, as well as three counts of breaching his probation order.  Stafford appeared in court on Aug. 18, 2018.

Theft arrest leads to drug charges
On Aug. 17, 2018 at approximately 7:23 p.m., Guelph Police were called to a business on Stone Road in regard to a male shoplifter. Guelph Police attended to the business and continued the arrest of the male.

As a result, Michael Moffit, a 36-year-old Guelph male, was charged with theft under $5,000 as well as two counts of breaching his probation order. During a search incident to arrest, Police located what is believed to be a quantity of cocaine, as well as crystal methamphetamine. Moffit was further charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance. Moffit appeared in court on Aug. 18, 2018.

Over 80 - arrest
On Aug. 18, 2018 at approximately 3:01 p.m., Guelph Police stopped a vehicle in the area of Elmira Road and Woodlawn Road for Speeding. Police spoke with the driver, and as a result, the driver was arrested for over 80.

David Vasilje, a 21-year-old Kitchener male is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 31, 2018.

Theft from car - arrest
On Aug. 18, 2018 at approximately 11:08 p.m., a resident of Windsor Street was advised by a concerned citizen that a man had entered the resident’s car that was parked in front of his house. The resident was able to locate the man a short distance away based on the description he had been given and he called police. Police located the man at Victoria Road and Delta Street.

Investigation determined that the man was in possession of property stolen from the car and he was arrested. William McBain, a 35-year-old Guelph male, was charged with possession of stolen property and breaching his probation order. McBain is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 5, 2018.

Recovered stolen bike - arrest
On Aug. 19, 2018 at approximately 4:42 a.m., Guelph Police went to a south end home for a call for service. While at the home, a bicycle was located. A male claimed ownership of the bicycle, but through police investigation it was determined that the bike had been reported stolen on Aug. 14, 2018.

Mark Spenrath, a 39-year-old Guelph male, has been charged with possession of stolen property.  Spenrath is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 5, 2018.

Guelph Police would like to remind the public about knowing the details of your bicycle, including the serial number. If your bicycle is stolen, report it stolen to police through the Guelph Police Service website at www.guelphpolice.ca, as well as registering your bike with Project 529.

From 6 a.m. on Aug. 17, 2018 until 6 a.m. on Aug. 20, 2018, the Guelph Police Service dealt with 708 calls for service.
