Assault, thefts from vehicles, vehicle investigation, stolen vehicle, calls for service

The following are news releases issued by the Guelph Police Service:

At approximately 1:10 a.m. on Dec. 10, a man threw a glass at another patron in a downtown licensed establishment. The glass shattered and the other patron received facial lacerations from the glass that required medical attention. Staff detained the responsible male who was given over to police.  

Andrew Ramirez, a 28-year-old Guelph man was charged with assault with a weapon and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date in January.

On Dec. 11, 2017 at 2:35 a.m., Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop of a green Volvo in the area of Woodlawn Road and Woolwich Street. Interaction with the driver led police to believe that her ability to operate the motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. A road side test with an approved screening device was conducted on the female driver and a “fail” was indicated and she was arrested.

Cynthia Strachan, 28 years of Ayton has been charged with drive over 80mg.

On Dec. 9, 2017 at 2:40 a.m., Guelph Police received a call about a male trying car doors in the area of Edwards Street. Police located the man on Washburn Drive and he was arrested.

Jacob McConnell, 23 years of age from Guelph has been charged with theft under $5,000, trespass by night, breach of probation and breach of OIC undertaking. He attended a bail hearing and was released to appear in court at a later date.

On the morning of Dec. 8, police were investigating missing licence plates that were seen attached to a GMC pickup truck in the area Woolwich Street. When police approached the driver, it was learned that the male was in breach of release conditions from previous criminal charges. He was arrested and also found in possession of a quantity of a substance believed to be cocaine and other property not lawfully belonging to him.

A 23-year-old man of no fixed address is charged with two counts of breach of recognizance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of break-in tools and possession of stolen property. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

At approximately 6:30 a.m. this morning, a green four door 2006 Mazda M3 was taken by an unknown person(s) from a June Avenue home when it was left running in the driveway.
