Motorcycle struck

On June 25, 2016 at 12:29 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Clair Road and Gordon Street for a collision. It is alleged that a motor vehicle was attempting to turn northbound onto Gordon from Clair. The motor vehicle turned into the oncoming path of a motorcycle, striking it and sending the passenger off the motorcycle onto the roadway. That passenger sustained major injuries.

Break and enter

On June 25, 2016 at 2:18 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a Cardigan Street apartment building to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) had entered the underground garage and stole an E-bike.

Spin outs in parking lot leads to charges

On June 25, 2016 at 11:37 p.m., the Guelph Police observed a motor vehicle in the Costco parking lot doing spin outs to the point that smoke and black burnout tracks were being made. Police stopped the motor vehicle and the male driver was arrested.  The vehicle had three occupants at the time of this incident. A total of 38 parking spots received damage to the painted lines. 

Kyle Krouskie, 21 years of Guelph has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and mischief under $5,000. He will appear in court on August 9, 2016.

Collision on Kortright – two drivers charged

On June 25, 2016 at 1:41 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Kortright Road west of Gordon Street for the report that a car flipped over. Investigation alleges that two cars were involved. They had been driving at a high rate of speed and as they rounded the bend in the road, one car struck the curb, flipped, struck a tree and landed on the median. Only minor injuries were reported.

Two 25-year-old Guelph men have been charged with stunt driving-racing, under the Highway Traffic Act. Both had their drivers licences suspended for seven days.

Downtown arrest

On June 26, 2016 at 12:07 a.m., the Guelph Police located a male sleeping near the fountain on Macdonell Street at the Cooperators building. An investigation into the male found that he has a curfew condition and he was subsequently arrested. A search after his arrest located tools consistent with use for break and enters and a small quantity of Crystal Meth.

Robert Sevigny, has been charged with two counts of breach of recognizance, two counts of breach of probation, possession of break in instruments and possession of a controlled substance. He will appear in court on June 27, 2016.

Theft and food fraud

On June 26, 2016 at 7:15 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a variety store at 90 Gordon Street for the report of a theft. A man had taken a package of cigarettes without paying for them.  Police located the man outside a nearby restaurant. Investigation discovered that the man had been inside the restaurant and ordered a dinner and drink and then left with no intention of returning. The man was arrested.

A 53-year-old Niagara Falls man has been charged with theft under $5,000 and obtain food by fraud. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on June 27, 2016.

Suspicious person call

On June 27, 2016 at approximately 4 a.m., the Guelph Police went to the Stephanie Drive area for a male going through cars. Police located the man and after a short foot pursuit and brief struggle he was arrested. A search subsequent to his arrest discovered a small quantity of Crystal Meth. Further investigation also found that the male has four existing warrants for his arrest for various charges.

A 40-year-old Guelph man has been charged with trespass by night, resist arrest, breach of recognizance and possession of a controlled substance. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on June 27, 2016.

Theft from cars

Over the weekend the Guelph Police received eight reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Brown Street, Lynch Circle, Stephanie Drive, Severn Drive, O’Connor Lane, Woodlawn Road West, Strathmere Place and Terraview Crescent.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible.
