Weekend calls include assault, weapons charges and police looking for an alleged thief caught on camera

Assault Charge

On May 23, 2020, at approximately 1:49 p.m., Guelph Police responded to a 9-1-1 call regarding a disturbance at an apartment complex on Paisley Road near Stephanie Drive, in the City of Guelph. 

Police determined that a dispute over money began inside an apartment between two females known to each other. The victim had allowed the accused entry to her apartment. Once inside the apartment, the argument started and the victim went into the bathroom and locked the door. The accused forced her way into the locked bathroom by kicking in the door causing damage. The accused then entered the bathroom and pulled the victim from the room. The victim fled to a bedroom where again the accused followed and began punching the victim multiple times. The victim was able to pull away and call 9-1-1 for police assistance. 

A 53-year-old Guelph female was arrested at the scene and charged with assault, utter death threats, mischief under $5,000 and breach of probation. The female was held in custody pending a Bail Hearing.

Weapon and Mischief Charge Laid

On May 23, 2020 at approximately 12:44 p.m., Guelph Police responded to the report of a male brandishing a knife at an apartment complex on Woolwich Street near Speedvale Avenue in the City of Guelph. 

An unknown male approached the exterior door of an apartment unit and began banging on the door while holding a knife in his left hand. The male appeared to be looking for a person not known to the resident. The male then left that area and attended to the front entrance of the complex and entered into a washroom where he plugged the toilet and stabbed the walls causing damage.

Guelph Police located the male inside the washroom and placed him under arrest.

The 46-year-old Guelph man has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, mischief under $5,000 and failure to comply with a judicial release order. The male was held in custody pending a Bail Hearing. 

Police Locate Missing Female With Dementia

On May 23, 2020, at 5:20 p.m, the Guelph Police Service were notified that a 75-year-old female with dementia was missing from her residence on Sleeman Avenue in the City of Guelph.

The female is a part of Project Lifesaver Guelph Wellington. Numerous officers were sent to the area and Project Lifesaver equipment was deployed.

At approximately 5:52 p.m, the female was located a short distance from her home. She was in good condition and did not require any medical attention. 

Project Lifesaver Guelph Wellington assists caregivers and responds to the challenges of keeping loved ones safe when they wander due to Alzheimer's, Autism, Dementia or other forms of cognitive impairment.

Participants wear a battery-operated bracelet that sends an FM radio signal 24 hours a day. It even works in areas such as buildings and forests.

Volunteers from Victim Services Wellington visit each client once a month to change the battery.

When a caregiver tells their local police service that a client has gone missing, trained police officers will use Project Lifesaver equipment to search for and locate the missing person.

  • Time it takes to find missing people with Project Lifesaver average 30 minutes — 95% less time than without.

  • Project Lifesaver has a 100% find rate.

Project Lifesaver does not replace the position of a caregiver, but it is a tool that can save lives and reduce stress felt by family members.

There is a startup fee to join the program as well as a monthly cost to maintain the equipment.

Break and Enter, Theft of ATV

On May 23rd, 2020 at 7pm, Guelph Police responded to a Break and Enter to the fenced compound of commercial property on Fair Road near Silvercreek Parkway North in the City of Guelph.   The perpetrator(s) cut a hole through the chain link fencing and stole a 2012 Polaris P55 Green (Camo) ATV with “Sportman 550 EFI” stenciled in brown and black along the side.

Vehicle Break and Enter Ends in Arrest

On May 24, 2020 at 2:50 a.m., Guelph Police responded to a report of a male entering vehicles on Caledonia Street near College Avenue in the City of Guelph. 

A male resident of the area located an unknown male entering his motor vehicle and removing items. The unknown male was confronted by the resident and fled on foot. The unknown male was located by Police a short distance away and placed under arrest. The male was found to be in possession of several stolen items. 

A 46 year old Guelph male was charged with the following criminal offenses:

  • Theft under $5,000  

  • Possession of stolen property

  • Possession of a controlled substance

  • Fail to comply with judicial release order

  • Breach probation – 2 counts

  • Possess identification documents

  • Possess stolen credit card

The male was held in custody pending a Bail Hearing.

Novice Driver Charged with Operation While Impaired

On May 24, 2020 shortly after midnight, Guelph Police observed a 2016 Honda leaving the downtown area. The vehicle was driving at varying speeds and made several hesitant turns in a residential area. A traffic strop was conducted by a member of the Guelph Police Traffic Unit and a sobriety test of the driver conducted.    The female driver of the vehicle registered a fail on a roadside approved screening device and placed under arrest.

A 45-year-old London resident was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration, drive motor vehicle no licence and novice driver – B.A.C. above zero. The female is schedule to appear in Guelph Court on June 23, 2020. 

Early Morning Theft From Porch

In the early morning hours of May 24, 2020 Guelph Police responded to the theft of a hammock from the porch of a residence on Oxford Street near Dublin Street in the City of Guelph. The theft was captured on home security video. Guelph Police are looking to speak to the female captured in this photograph.
