Between May 4 and on May 7, the Guelph Police Service dealt with 749 calls for service

The following news releases were issued today by the Guelph Police Service:

Wind storm
As a result of the wind storm on Friday, May 4, 2018, Guelph police received close to 80 calls related to damage from the wind in a six-hour time span. This included assisting the O.P.P. with closing the Hanlon Parkway due to a dangerous condition.

The Guelph Police Service would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding. Non-emergency calls for service were significantly backed up.

Stolen bicycle - arrest
On May 4, 2018 at approximately 5:15 p.m. while on routine patrol, Guelph police officers spotted a male allegedly in possession of a bicycle that had recently been reported stolen. The male was spoken to and the bicycle was confirmed to have been reported stolen. Skyler Finch, a 28-year-old Guelph male was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property and breaching an Order of Recognizance. He was held for a bail hearing, which occurred on May 5, 2018.

Disturbance
On May 5, 2018, at approximately 11:50 a.m., Guelph police were called to a financial institution located downtown, where there was a male causing a disturbance. Police located the male and spoke to him. He was found to have a warrant for his arrest issued by the Toronto Police Service. The 39-year-old male was arrested and transported to the police station where Toronto police officers picked him up.

Over 80
On May 6, 2018 at approximately 3:20 a.m. while on routine patrol, Guelph police conducted a traffic stop involving a vehicle that was allegedly driving with no lights. Police spoke with the male driver and a demand was made for a roadside breath sample. He failed this test and was arrested. Mark Hillyard, a 30-year-old Guelph male, as charged with over 80mg. He will appear in court on May 22, 2018.

Suspicious person
On May 6, 2018 at approximately 8 a.m., Guelph police were called to a Clair Road East address where there was a report that someone had broken into an abandoned home. Police located a person on the property and spoke with her. A 33-year-old Guelph female was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance. She was held for a bail hearing.

Break and enter investigations
On May 4, 2018, the Guelph Police went to a Birmingham Street residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered a shed sometime overnight and stole a bicycle. On May 5, 2018, the Guelph Police went to a Marlborough Road residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered a shed sometime overnight and stole tools and a bicycle. Anyone who may have information about this incident is asked to contact Cst. M. Braga at 519-824-1212 at ext. 7144.
