Blue light pointed at plane On May 6, 2016 at 10:51 p.m., the Guelph Police received a call for service from the Air Traffic Control Centre at Pearson International Airport.

On May 6, 2016 at 10:51 p.m., the Guelph Police received a call for service from the Air Traffic Control Centre at Pearson International Airport. Air Canada flight #372 to Toronto reported that a blue laser beam was pointed at their aircraft at a cruising altitude of 7,000 feet when it was above the area of Clair Road East and Gordon Street. Officers checked the area, however, were unable to locate the responsible party.

Store manager pushed

On May 6, 2016 at 6:15 p.m., the Guelph Police went to No Frills on Silvercreek Parkway North to assist with a shoplifter. A female was confronted by the store manager about shoplifting. The female became aggressive, pushed the manager and then fled on a bicycle. The female was located by police and arrested. The subsequent search discovered a small knife in her pocket.

Sherilyn Doerr, 41 years of Guelph has been charged with assault, carry a concealed weapon and breach of probation. She will appear in court on May 24, 2016.

Arrest at Riverside Park

On May 6, 2016 at 7:50 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Riverside Park after receiving the report of an intoxicated male near the carousel. Police located the man and due to his level of intoxication was arrested for his safety. A subsequent search discovered a small quantity of Crystal Methamphetamine.

Charles Clarke, 32 years of Guelph has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and two counts of breach of probation. He will appear in court on May 17, 2016.

Drive over 80 mg

On May 6, 2016 at 6:10 p.m., the Guelph Police went to 615 Scottsdale Drive for the report of two parked cars being struck. Police located the responsible vehicle and its owner on scene. Police spoke with this male and determined that he had consumed alcohol. A demand was made for a roadside breath sample. He failed this test and was arrested.

Christopher Cherry, 38 years of Kitchener has been charged with drive over 80 mg. He will appear in court on May 17, 2016.

Impaired driver arrested

On May 7, 2016 at 2:37 a.m., the Guelph Police received information about a vehicle being driven erratically. The driver parked his car downtown and began to walk away but police stopped him. Police determined that he was impaired by alcohol and he was arrested.

Paul Cadorette, of Guelph has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80mg. He was also charged with three counts of drive while prohibited under the Highway Traffic Act. He will appear in court on June 14, 2016.

Break and enter

On May 8, 2016 at 8:38 p.m., the Guelph Police went to an Elizabeth Street residence to investigate a break and enter. The resident returned home to find the front door open. The entry is believed to have occurred sometime between 12:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. A theft of coin and cash is reported.

Fight downtown

On May 8, 2016 at 2:20 a.m., the Guelph Police were alerted to a fight on Macdonell Street. Police located a large group of males fighting and went in to break it up. As everyone was being separated, one male lunged in to strike a man that police were dealing with but he struck the officer in the back of the head instead. This male was arrested.

Armel Kayeye, 19 years old of Guelph has been charged with cause disturbance and assault police. He will appear in court on June 14, 2016.

Theft from cars

Over the weekend the Guelph Police received eleven reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Kemp Crescent, Stevenson Street South, Scottsdale Drive, Cardigan Street, Campbell Road, Delhi Street and five on Oakes Crescent.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible. Road safety enforcement on May 6 and 8

May 6 - In the area of Woodlawn Road East near Woolwich Street from 5:45 p.m. - 7:15 p.m. – 13 tickets issued.

May 8 - In the area of Edinburgh Road South from 5:09 p.m. - 7:37 p.m. - 16 tickets issued.
