A Guelph business found itself the latest local victim of a burgeoning trend this week when catalytic convertors were stolen from some of its vehicles, reports Guelph police.

Police received a call around noon Wednesday from an employee of a business located on York Road near Watson Parkway South. The caller reported four of the emission control devices were stolen over the previous few days, while the convertors on a third vehicle were damaged. The total loss is estimated at $6,000.

Police services across North America have reported sharp increases in thefts of catalytic convertors in recent months. Since Christmas at least two dozen such thefts have been reported to Guelph police.
