COUNTY OF WELLINGTON - Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are responding to many calls of downed wires, poles and trees down over the roadways. As a result there are multiple road closures.

Wellington County OPP would like to remind all motorists to drive with caution and travel only if absolutely necessary.

Also remember to treat intersections as 4-way stops if the lights are out.

Stay safe.

A weather system swept across the Grand River watershed on Friday afternoon, bringing damaging winds to much of southern Ontario.

High winds have brought down large trees and power lines affecting a number of Grand River Conservation Authority parks, trails and properties throughout the watershed resulting in numerous closures and cancellations.

Brant Park (Brantford), Shade’s Mills (Cambridge), Belwood Lake and Elora Gorge parks have all been closed indefinitely due to damage sustained during this event. Sections of the Elora Cataract Trail have also been closed due to downed trees.

As GRCA staff continue to assess damages, more areas could be closed, or access could be restricted, due to damaged infrastructure. If you come across downed trees or power lines, stay well back.

Those with campsite reservations or events planned at GRCA parks this weekend and early next week are advised to call ahead to the park to find out whether these bookings will be affected.
