The Guelph Police Service will launch a new communications tool designed to improve customer service and better support victims of crime.

Beginning Wednesday, June 1, those who call 911 or the police administrative line (519-824-1212) to report certain types of occurrences will receive a text message confirmation including the police occurrence number. Initially, the system will send automatic text confirmations for more than 30 occurrence types, including break and enters, theft, property damage, neighbour disputes, frauds, dangerous conditions, suspicious persons or vehicles and bylaw complaints.

In addition to receiving a confirmation of the occurrence number, some callers, such as those reporting frauds, will receive follow-up messaging pointing them to more information on the Guelph Police Service website. Callers will also receive a follow-up message asking if they found the service valuable and giving them an opportunity to provide feedback.

“We are committed to the safety of our community, and we are constantly striving to improve our customer service,” said Chief Gord Cobey. “The goal of this new application is to make reporting an occurrence an easier and more informative process for our citizens.”
