WELLINGTON COUNTY - The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is releasing the results of the most recent traffic enforcement initiative, Operation Impact which was conducted between Oct. 9-12, 2020. Officers patrolled area roadways, targeting the Big 4 which include alcohol/drug impaired drivers, speeding, distracted driving and seatbelt violations.

As a result, a total of 126 charges were laid during the campaign which include:
    •    Speeding - 95
    •    Stunt driving - 8
    •    Seatbelts - 0
    •    Distracted driving - 1
    •    Other hazardous moving violations - 21

"Once again, we would like to thank those on our roadways that made a conscious effort to drive in a safe and appropriate manner. We are encouraged that over the weekend in Wellington County we had no impaired driving incidents. Our officer's also were happy to report a high compliance with seatbelt usage. It was disappointing to see that eight drivers were stopped and charged with stunt driving over the holiday weekend. Stunt driving poses a significant risk to the users of our roadways and our communities. The Ontario Provincial Police will continue to conduct strict enforcement of all unsafe driving behaviour. We all need to work together towards ensuring the safety of not only ourselves, but also that of our families and our community members." - A/S/Sgt Darryl Porterfield

Although the initiative has concluded, Wellington OPP is urging motorists to drive responsibly and within the law. OPP officers are dedicated, year round, to traffic enforcement, contributing to the safety of both Wellington County residents and its visitors.
