One driver charged with impaired after head-on crash

Both drivers sustained injuries

TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH/ERAMOSA - On Dec. 21, 2019 at approximately 9 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a multi-vehicle collision on Wellington Road 32 west of the City of Guelph. Initial reports indicated that two vehicles had collided head-on and both drivers had sustained injuries.

OPP, Guelph Fire Department and Guelph-Wellington Paramedics Services responded and treated the injured. Officers speaking with one of the drivers formed the opinion that they had been consuming alcohol. Both drivers were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officer conducted further testing on the driver suspected to have consumed alcohol.

As a result of the investigation, Darshan Kanubhai Patel, 42 years old of Cambridge has been charged with impaired operation - 80 plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood). A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (ADLS) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph on Jan. 24, 2020.
