TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH - On Aug. 9, 2017 at approximately 4:25 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint from a customer at the No Frills Store in Mount Forest.

The complainant advised that while she was putting her one child into her vehicle car seat an unknown male came and took her grocery cart that held her other child in it and started walking away.

The complainant was able to go over and get her child back with the cart and the unknown male left in a vehicle with three other occupants.

This investigation is ongoing however information obtained has the OPP believing at this time that there is no threat to public safety and that this was an isolated incident.

The male involved has been identified and officers will be speaking with him and his companions. It is believed that alcohol played a role in the male mistakenly taking the cart not realizing that the child's mother was right there.
